Sofa and Furniture Care Guide
At HearthSupplyCo, we want you to enjoy your furniture for as long as possible. Proper care and regular maintenance can help preserve its appearance and comfort. Always follow the care instructions supplied with your specific product, as materials and finishes may vary.
General Sofa Care
- Vacuum upholstery regularly using a suitable upholstery attachment to remove dust and loose debris.
- Blot spills promptly with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing, which may spread the stain or push liquid deeper into the fabric.
- Keep sofas away from prolonged direct sunlight and sources of excessive heat to help reduce fading or material deterioration.
- Rotate or rearrange removable cushions periodically, where permitted by the product instructions, to encourage more even wear.
- Avoid standing or jumping on sofas and do not exceed the product's specified weight capacity.
Fabric Upholstery
For fabric sofas, test any cleaning product on a small, inconspicuous area before use. Use only cleaning methods appropriate for the fabric. Excess moisture, bleach, strong solvents, and abrasive brushes may cause damage.
For significant stains, consider a professional upholstery cleaning service familiar with your fabric type.
Leather or Faux-Leather Surfaces
Dust surfaces gently with a soft, clean cloth. Use only cleaners recommended for the specific material. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat, which may cause fading, cracking, or drying.
Sofa Frames and Legs
Check visible fasteners periodically and tighten them only as directed by the product instructions. Lift furniture when moving it rather than dragging it across the floor. Use appropriate floor protectors to reduce scratches and help keep furniture stable.
Cushion and Assembly Care
Follow the included assembly instructions and use the recommended hardware. Do not substitute parts or modify the furniture in ways that may compromise its stability.
If cushions are removable, follow the care label before washing or treating them. Some covers may not be machine washable.
Long-Term Maintenance
Clean up spills promptly, keep pets' claws away from upholstery where possible, and avoid placing sharp objects on furniture. Regular gentle maintenance is generally preferable to aggressive cleaning.
Care requirements differ by product. If you are unsure about a particular material or cleaning method, check the product instructions or contact our team before proceeding.
